My love affair with Yorkshire

This was a dream come true! I always wondered what it might be like to be in Yorkshire when it snowed. Well, for once, it snowed in late March and this is what we woke to.

This is the charming hamlet of Nesfield, where we stay in Yorkshire. There is little to compare it to here in Canada so let’s just say it is a little piece of british heaven.

Rose cottage is our home while in Yorkshire. We feel like we are coming home when we arrive. It always brings a tear to my eye.

Just follow the footpath between the houses to the fields of sheep and dry stone walls. You will think you’ve been dropped into a painting.

My ancestors are deep in Yorkshire and maybe that is why I feel so happy there. Either way, genetic memories aside, I think most people would agree it is a treasure.

Springtime in Yorkshire is my favourite time to visit, for obvious reasons looking at these wee lambs.

I wish there was sound on this image so you could hear the bleating.

Love this shot (and the one above from behind and below showing the top of my head) because my hair was in full transition from blond highlights to natural silver/grey. This was the most difficult part of the transition as it didn’t look clear to people what I was doing. I love it now and I’m very glad I persevered.

Look at this shot! I should add this one to my post about “going silver”.

The view out the kitchen window in Rose Cottage. I mean, come on!

An evening view from the bedroom window, beautiful, even on a stormy day.

This picture seemed like something out of a storybook. Victoria with her curly hair, blowing in the wind, the sheep in the fields. Bucolic!

I love the selection of spring plants, particularly these ranunculus from Italy that we don’t get in Canada, likely for cost reasons. Our ranunculus come much later than March. These were a fiver at M&S Express.

A beautiful storm passing in the evening sky out the bedroom window.

Ah yes, one of the other things I love about Yorkshire are the incredible country pubs. This one is in Lynton at the Fountain Inn.

The village of Grassington is always on our list of stops.

Postman Pat in Nesfield. To note, there are a couple of spots that our small car barely scrapes by while driving up the hill to Rose Cottage. The sensors in the car are squealing like crazy and I just close my eyes and hope for the best.

Yorkshire, you just GET me. I’m so glad you are part of my DNA so I don’t have to make up stories. xx
