Moving house in the year of a global pandemic!

I think we can all agree, it’s been a heck of a year and counting!

Our global history is unfolding as never before. As with many of you, the pandemic had monetary implications for our family as my husband is a self employed writer and conference speaker and his income is almost solely derived from touring to schools and presenting at conferences, both of which abruptly stopped in March 2020. This prompted us to downsize financially, which meant selling the home we all loved for a home that hopefully would give us what we needed but be less expensive. It seemed to be one thing we could do to improve our finances in an uncertain future.

It was a long and crazy journey (how do real estate agents deal with clients like us???) and ultimately lead us to another home and garden to love and to bond with. I can say I fought tooth and nail to stay in my previous and what I thought “forever” home. It was an emotional roller coaster that taught me a lot about my priorities and my fortitude.

The day we signed on the dotted line for our previous home. What a wonderful day! April 2013

I am so grateful for those 7 and a half years. Who would have known I would find another house to love like this one?

I’m so very happy with our choice of home and garden. It has been a lot of work. (A LOT) It was a MUCH bigger project than we imagined (just a lick of paint, I said) but it is exactly what we wanted because we have created it as such. Time will tell if it was the financial boon we were seeking. Either way, this home is, well, homey. It has oodles of character, a garden waiting to be dreamed and planted and the finest neighbourhood and neighbours you could imagine.

And now, a big project to bring this beautiful but tired home into our world.

I long for the seasons and celebrations that make a house a home. The home is cosy and beautiful. I have an Aga cooker again, that I love so much. The garden faces south, which is the best for the flower/cottage garden I have in mind. I will have an area for raised beds to grow cutting flowers and maybe a few veggies. David has a beautiful converted garage as his work space. It is more than enough.

This is my first blog post in nine months. But as I and many have discovered, I’m more resilient than I thought. I’m feeling grounded again. I would love to share my home and garden journey with you. I want to show you our renovations thus far and my new garden creation.

I’ve spruced up my blog in honour of my new digs, so we all have a fresh start.

Stay safe and stay well,

Look how she is coming along!!! xo
